There comes a time in any woman’s life when she has to draw a line: how many failed loves, how many boring dates, how many frustrated exes, how many unspoken marriages … No no, not a checklist, although I know people who have such a list, long as a fasting day. Honestly, I haven’t decided yet what is more to my advantage, to have the list or to be on the list (you and, surprise, your best friend). Well, let’s spare the details …
Looking for a job (yeap, I’m jobless for now), I have some free time and during this free time, I had a huge revelation: I no longer wanna wash anyone’s underwear, neither inside nor outside an official relation. Like never ever in the whole history of forever! However, never say never 😉 Have you noticed that sometimes this forever during a relationship, in some cases, of course, lasts until the first one dares to cheat or until the gazillion glass of alcohol followed by domestic violence (although the violence itself is anything but domestic)? What the bride and the groom do not understand when they decide to unite their destinies, dreams, and belongings is that by no means they shall transform themselves into each other’s slaves. During the religious ceremony, while we look at our chosen one excited, sweaty of ecstatic happiness and naughty desire, the future husband is advised to love his wife as he would love himself (those having problems regarding emotional stagnation somewhere around the age of 16 will have a real dilemma), and his wonderful wife, to obey her husband. Really? I am rolling my eyes off …
According to Romani 7: 2-3, marriage is the holy bond between a man and a woman, which is broken only by the death of one of the spouses. Therefore, remarriage is allowed by the Church only to widows and to those who have been left alone after the spouse has left his or her family and joins someone else. Aaahh, how lovely, what do we do now?
Theoretically, if you are a divorced woman, who abandoned the husband (but not the family), you have three options: wait for your ex to die to reunite with another man, stay unmarried forever or become, taaadaaam, a mistress! As you do not want anyone to die (especially not the father of your child), you have no present or future intention to become a nun in any monastery, the only logical option is to become a mistress, isn’t it? 🙂
What? Weren’t the courtesans the most wanted women in the whole world centuries ago? Didn’t they rule the kings and their countries dressed in lace and brocade? We think that we invented the world and the relationships, but in the time of the courtesans, kings had open relationships just like many in our days, which I’ve notices is more and more fashionable. The queen was for giving the country heirs and for the beautiful smile in the oval royal family portraits to be remembered hundreds of years later, while the courtesan was for fun, pleasure, and boudoir. The queen knew about the courtesan, the courtesan knew about the queen. Basically, nothing has changed, except that nowadays, the queen has become the wife, and the courtesan has become the mistress.
After years of cleaning up socks and underwear like a real queen, you start to think that being a modern courtesan might be not so awful. Our days, things have become even more complicated. Real story: He, divorced, meets her, just as divorced as him. They decide to have a child, never to get married, but to have an open relationship, even a very open one, a bit like a semicircle. He allows her to have a lover, she allows him to have a mistress. Moreover, she brings her lover for a beer with her living partner and he declares himself satisfied, the lover seems to be a good guy. They exchange phone numbers, you never know when the semicircle partner might have to call the lover to inform him about their common girlfriend who cannot come to the date due to a terrible cold. Everyone is happy!
After all, who is more hypocritical, the married person who cheats on the spouse and pretends to be in the perfect marriage or partners in this semicircle relationship? Still, you must be very good at sharing to be able to have such a relationship and I totally suck at sharing.
As for the mistress, given that she is a free woman, you have to try it all one time in your life they say 🙂 Famous mistresses? Plenty: Madame de Pompadour (and Louis XV), Marilyn Monroe (and JFK), the insistent mistress who eventually became a wife, Camilla Parker (and Prince Charles), Monica Lewinsky (and Bill Clinton), Countess Walewska (and Napoleon), Elena Lupescu (and King Carol), Maria Obrenovici (and Alexandru Ioan Cuza).
Of course, most wives would burn all the mistresses in the world accused of witchcraft, like Joana D’Arc. Bad news wives, mistresses exist always loving, satisfied, and always eager! The good news, however, the mistress will (in most cases) send back home the wonderful lover. Nobody wants a cheating man in the long run! Oh, single life is interesting! 🙂
