Starting from 1995, every year on the 23rd of April, UNESCO celebrates the World book and copyright day, a day to promote reading, but also to commemorate Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. The idea of this day came from Spain, where once with St. George, it is celebrated Rose Festival as well. During this day, many publishers and bookstores have public readings and book donations. Booktopia in partnership with Humanitas bookstores planned for today the Reading Marathon – You read, We donate!
Thursday, starting with 16.00, at the Cervantes Institute from Bucharest, will be a continuous reading from Don Quijote de la Mancha. The reading will be opened by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain in Bucharest, Ramiro Fernandez Banchiller, and will be followed by Sorin Mărculescu, Cervantes’s work translator in Romanian.
Throughout the dedicated reading will read both juniors and students and members of the diplomatic corps, personalities, admirers of characters created by Miguel Cervantes. Readers will have available versions of the famous novel in Spanish and Romanian. Every reader can read for a maximum of two minutes.
